Dear Houyhnhners & Friends,

We are over the moon to announce that the broadcast of Houyhnhnmsis finally online!!!!

You can now load your movies or simply enjoy other houyhnhners’ inspirations

as a member of the audience and decide the editorial line and the TV listings of Houyhnhnms by voting.

Please remember:

- The movies uploaded to houyhnhnms must get an average score higher than 4 from the votes performed during

the first week of its broadcast. Any movies with an average score lower than 4 at the end of the first seven days

will be removed from the TV listings.

- Only original films will be admitted and these will not be abusive, aggressive, explicit or with no artistic criteria.

- The standard format to load movies to Houyhnhnms is: FLV (flash video)768×432 pixels

(max. 700 kbps of video and 128 kbps of audio)

- You can load files of up to 100 Mb size with no length restrictions, and soon (we will keep you informed) up to 700 Mb.

- The Houyhnhnms playing system is done through streaming, this means you can fast forward or reverse

at any time of the movie you are watching without having to wait for it to load.

- For any technical doubts, do not hesitate in contacting us at: webmaster@houyhnhnms.tv

- You can send messages and observations with the H-Ticker tool.

- You can only access Houyhnhnms.tv for Houyhnhners by invitation.

- You can recommend movies and invite your friends by sending them the following hidden URL.

- Houyhnhnms is still at its Beta for Friends phase, so please forgive any errors you may find due to adjustments and testing tasks…

Once a year, Houyhnhnms and a Sponsor will launch a challenge to all Houyhnhners
to create a briefing on a theme of social interest which should last from 20 seconds min. to 3 minutes max.?

The five best movies elected by the community and the one chosen by the sponsor will receive an H-Award which will be presented at the “Houyhnhnms Lounge Pitching Party”.

An H-Award will also be given to the three most voted movies of the year from the Films, Short Films, Micromovies, Docu, Animotion, Video Art, Music Videos and Artvertising channels.

We will soon inform you on the starting dates, the briefing and the sponsor of the Houyhnhnms challenge.

Right from the very beginning of this Houyhnhnms project we have been aware of the great difficulty to pronounce or even remember its name.
We’ve had to put up with all kinds of insinuations:
Have you really thought this out?
Why don’t you change the name??
Nobody will ever remember it.
You won’t find it online,
That’s Spam!, or simply: That’s an impossible name!!
Although we’ve always been proud of this little peculiarity, yesterday, one of our team members was actually unable to write it down!!!
This fact has finally made us seriously think about it.
We thought about it over and over again, until we eventually changed our mind!!:

As part of the Second Madinspain Congress- which brings together the best international web and graphic designers- we showed houyhnhnms.tv.
Last Saturday it was time to explain what this site is, its own evolution, to show the movies which are taking part in it, and we seized the opportunity to encourage the conference attendees to become members of the community.
Psychotypographic (or “the creativity stimulant to typographic development, search for it, and its internet use”) was the concept which gathered all madinspain speakers… Houyhnhnms took part in it.

All your inspirations will be randomly broadcast in Houyhnhnms Home.
Concept briefing: What’s Houyhnhnms?
Requirements: 30 seconds maximum. 768 x 432 pixels FLV format (16:9).
Always, each film has to be clearly signed by its author.

As some of you will remember, the first Houyhnhnms launched in 2002 was a global “Flash Inspirational Experiment”.

Despite serious speed restrictions, we were starting to discover the vast opportunities Flash offered to use movement and sound in Web pages and in our interactive creations.

In that first release, we challenged all the creators worldwide to create a spot/movie on a specific theme no larger than… 45k!
Many thought we were crazy, but the actual result was 3.5 million hits, the participation of creators from 27 different countries, over 500 proposals, a Möbius/Unesco/Uab prize and the actual houyhnhners finally deciding which were the 23 best creations.

Things have changed dramatically since then… now technology provides us with tools and connection speeds which were no more than a dream a few years ago.
Television and Web are merging at a vertiginous speed and we believe it is time to try again this new emerging media… a hybrid between TV, Web and mobile technology with huge opportunities to discover.

At Houyhnhnms we have decided to go for a thrilling opportunity:
Create a community of creators with TV format.
A television which grows directly on inspiration.
A place to experiment new concepts for a new audiovisual market.
An environment to share the most authentic audiovisual dreams, with no need for intermediaries.

The success of this new project is once again down to the creators but now it is also down to the audience, who, as Houyhnhners (members of the community), will determine the editorial line and the programming of Houyhnhnms.tv.

This is a fascinating experiment for us, because we deem that, in a few years, most televisions will adopt systems to interact with their audience, just as the one we are starting to try at houyhnhnms.

We believe that by inspiring each other, we will inspire the world and influence its future changes.
In any case, let us flow… and see what happens.
